Morphology and biological characteristics of some popular weedy rices in the Mekong delta of Vietnam

The growing trend of cropping intensification, mechanisation, the use poor-quality rice seeds, and shift in cultivation methods from transplanting to direct sowing meet food security export demand are causes emergence spread weedy (Oryza sativa f. spontanea) Mekong delta recent years. Therefore, it is necessary study agronomic, morphological, physiological characteristics collected lines help identify, analyse, distinguish field. Out a total 28 planted, selected, observed 248 samples main production areas delta, there 12 with one or more morphological biological that can among them cultivated varieties, such as duration, plant height, leaf colour shape, stem awn without awn, husk colour, seed length, grain colour. These key be used identify varieties grown at different growth stages However, some sharing major features variety short similar shorter shape. Those not easy eliminate on field, leading possibility becoming widespread difficult control delta.
